I wrote this song while visiting Hiroshima in Japan, which happened to be at the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the atomic bomb blast. I was staying in my friends flat and looking out across the city and thought about what was going on in cities all across the world, as the sun set.

As cars flow down the lanes, of the city’s veins
And junkies blow their brains
Night coming down…
And waves break on the sand, and kids are kicking cans,
And fools are making plans,
A planet revolving
The night grinds into gear with lover’s bitter tears
And bikies drinking beer . moon is on the rise
There are dreams that turn to dust, there are gamblers going bust
There are lovers lost in lust, night coming down

Watching night fall on the city

The city’s in full swing, as secretaries have their fling
And hookers sell there skin, blood streaks the sky
With hearts pinned to their sleeves, the sailor boys on leave
Are trying to believe, they gonna find some fun…
Beneath a dome of stars, lovers in parked cars,
The crashing of guitars, night coming down

The moon smiles down so sad, on suckers being had
In so many dingy pads
Night coming down
Sunk deep in armchair bliss, couch potatoes never miss
The night’s sweet sultry kiss, a planet revolving.
The screech of rubber and the siren’s scream
A frightened face caught in a headlight beam
The city is an electric dream
Night coming down
